Samatya

Description:

Remains of the Marmara Sea Walls at Samatya looking towards the sea. Market gardens are visible in front of the walls. The planting bed called "tava" or "mashula" can be discerned in the left foreground. This is an early visual record of this technique, which is still used by gardeners in Istanbul.
