ICFA.NA.0086, Nicholas V. Artamonoff Collection, Image Collections and Fieldwork Archives, Dumbarton Oaks.

Substructure of unknown function underneath the nineteenth-century Greek Orthodox church of St. Menas, October 1936.

It was discovered in 1935 by German archaeologist Alfons Maria Schneider. When Artamonoff photographed it a year later, the apsed chamber was being used for storage. In the 1970s, it was occupied by a carpenter’s shop.
