The Kitchen Garden Today

This photograph shows irisis in the foreground separated by a low holly hedge from the vegetable beds. Soil displaced during the excavation of the pithouse can be seen in the background. Erosion has lowered the grade of this area by as much as 8 inches in the past few years, hence the decision to remove the excavated soil to this area.
A section of the vegetable garden was replanted in 2009 and has been replanted successfully each year since. Plans are in place to expand the garden in future years. Please see the next exhibit, "Frame Yard Excavation" for photographs of the pit house excavation process and 3D renderings of what the pit house might have looked like.
