St. Euphemia, inlaid column of the chancel screen in situ, December 1942.

Sven Larsen, professor of Mathematics and German at Robert College, accompanied Artamonoff on his trip to St. Euphemia, following the excavations by the German Archaeological Institute, which ended on December 5th. Larsen’s article, published in the Illustrated London News on June 1st, 1946, was illustrated with Artamonoff’s photographs, one of which featured Larsen standing next to this column inlaid with green and red stones. The column in the photograph is today in the Istanbul Archaeology Museums.
