Marble holy font from the Monastery of Theotokos ton Hodegon in the Mangana, November 1935.

The dodecagonal font was excavated in 1921-1923 by the French military forces during the occupation of Istanbul by Allied Forces. In the 1930s, the churches at Mangana were revisited by German archaeologist Alfons Maria Schneider, whose investigations at the site may have guided Artamonoff. The two men in the photograph are unidentified.
