Man carrying a sheep on his back, [1937].

Artamonoff was particularly interested in the sheep markets that sprouted up before Kurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha or Sacrifice Holiday) and photographed many around Istanbul. This is one of the most intriguing photos in the series as a shepherd or porter carries a live sheep on his back to be delivered to its new owner before the sacrifice.
